RELEASE NOTES
ICQ² 0.2.02a for Linux
The first native ICQ² terminal-client research alpha for 64-bit Linux. It connects to the same live ICQ2 network as the Windows app.
What is included
- Registration, saved-session login and reconnect with bounded retry timing.
- Contacts, authorization requests, groups, aliases and presence.
- Profile viewing and editing plus Global Directory search by UIN or profile fields.
- Direct text messages and local history protected with SQLCipher per UIN.
- Session secrets stored through the desktop Secret Service instead of plaintext files.
- Signed background updates that stage safely and retain the previous version for rollback.
Install from one file
- Download the DEB installer below.
- Open your Downloads folder and double-click the file.
- Click Install in the software installer.
- Open ICQ2 Terminal from the application menu.
Your desktop may ask for the normal system-install password. The first launch verifies the embedded signed release and prepares the client for your user account. Later signed fixes install automatically without replacing your account data.
Advanced manual install
The signed tar release remains available for distributions that do not open DEB packages. Download the installer, archive, detached signature and public key into one directory, then run:
chmod +x install.sh
./install.sh \
--archive icq2-0.2.02a-linux-x86_64.tar.gz \
--signature icq2-0.2.02a-linux-x86_64.tar.gz.sig \
--public-key icq2-unix-update-public-key.pemThe installer creates commands under ~/.local/bin and versioned files in the current user's XDG data directory. Start with icq2-tui; inspect updates with icq2-update --status.
