ICQ2 0.2.03a native Linux GUI research alpha

SUPPORTED SYSTEMS

This x86-64 release was validated on Linux Mint 22.3 and on a clean Ubuntu
24.04 environment. It is a native C++20/Qt 6 Widgets desktop application; it
does not contain a browser shell. Other Linux distributions may require a
different package format or library names.

EASY INSTALL FOR LINUX MINT AND UBUNTU

1. Download ICQ2-GUI-0.2.03a-linux-x86_64.deb.
2. Open the downloaded file in the graphical software installer.
3. Click Install and enter the normal system-install password if requested.
4. Open ICQ2 from the application menu.

The DEB contains the production-signed release and its public verification
key. The first launch verifies the embedded archive and creates a per-user
installation. It does not replace a separately installed ICQ2 terminal client
or its account data.

AUTOMATIC UPDATES

The GUI uses its own signed update channel:

  https://icq2.net/releases/linux/gui-x86_64/friends.manifest

The client checks this channel in the background. A newer archive is accepted
only after its Ed25519 signature, declared size, SHA-256 value, product,
version, platform and architecture all pass validation. Activation retains the
previous working version, performs a safe-start health check and rolls back on
failure. Account data and the Linux terminal client remain separate.

Optional diagnostic commands:

  icq2-gui-update --status
  icq2-gui-update --check
  icq2-gui-update --rollback

ADVANCED PER-USER INSTALL

For a system that does not open DEB packages, download install.sh, the tar.gz
archive, its .sig file and icq2-linux-gui-update-public-key.pem into one
directory, then run:

  chmod +x install.sh
  ./install.sh \

    --signature icq2-gui-0.2.03a-linux-x86_64.tar.gz.sig \

This installs only for the current user, normally under ~/.local/share/icq2
and ~/.local/bin. Run the graphical client with icq2.

ICQ2-GUI-0.2.03a-LINUX-SHA256SUMS.txt lists every release file and has its own
detached Ed25519 signature. The archive, DEB and update manifest are also
individually signed.

ALPHA LIMITS

File transfer, contact-card transfer, group chat, calls and end-to-end
encryption are not included. Transport is encrypted, but the service can
process message contents.

ICQ2 is an independent project from I Seek You Too LLC. It is not affiliated
with Mirabilis, AOL, VK or the former ICQ service.
